UPSC Mains GS Papers (GS1–GS4): What Each Covers
The Main Examination is the core written stage that counts toward your rank. It has nine papers, of which the merit papers are the Essay, four General Studies papers, and two Optional-subject papers (the two language papers are qualifying).
The Mains merit papers
