About UPSC Help Center

UPSC Help Center is a free reference site about how the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE) actually works — the rules, the forms, the deadlines and the decisions you have to make along the way.

We are not a coaching site, and we do not publish current affairs, notes or mock tests. What almost nobody does is write the process down clearly, date it, cite the official document, and correct it when it changes. That is our job.

Who this site is for

— People deciding whether to start preparing at all.

— First-time candidates working through registration, the application form and certificates.

— Candidates mid-cycle — Prelims, the answer key, the DAF, Mains, the interview.

— Working professionals and self-study candidates without a coaching budget.

— People who did not clear, are out of attempts, or are deciding whether to continue.

That last group matters. A coaching business cannot serve someone thinking about leaving; it works against how they earn. We can.

The problems we exist to solve

Every page here comes from a real question that gets bad answers elsewhere.

"Does this count as an attempt?" Appearing in even one Prelims paper uses an attempt; applying alone does not. The damage is in the edge cases — you signed attendance and walked out, you sat only the CSAT paper, your candidature was cancelled later. The notification answers these; almost nobody writes them down in one place.

Certificate timing. OBC-NCL, EWS, SC/ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen certificates must be issued in the right window, in the right format, by the right authority, for the right cycle. It is one of the most rejection-prone parts of the examination, and a defect is hard to undo.

Choosing an optional with data that does not exist. Most "optional success rate" tables online are extrapolated from an old UPSC annual report and presented as current official fact. We say what the Commission has actually disclosed, what the internet has invented, and how to choose anyway.

The DAF. The Detailed Application Form is filled in a short window and is effectively irreversible. Name and date-of-birth mismatches, incomplete sections, vague hobbies and unconsidered service preferences cause real harm — yet most DAF content online is interview upsell, not risk management.

Opacity, and process changes nobody maintains. You do not get your marks, your response sheet or your real position until the cycle ends. The provisional answer key and question-paper representation route were covered as news once, then abandoned. We keep both as living, dated reference.

CSAT. It is only a qualifying paper, yet it ends more candidatures at Prelims than most people expect. We treat that as a structural fact to plan around, not a personal failing.

Advice from people who cleared, and facts that are simply wrong. Almost every strategy guide is topper-authored, so little of it fits the median candidate with a job and a few attempts left. Meanwhile cut-offs from one cycle get labelled as another and copied everywhere; we correct those publicly, with sources.

What this site does not do

We are not the Union Public Service Commission, and we are not any government department. We cannot:

— accept, edit or withdraw your application

— issue, correct or verify certificates, admit cards or documents

— access, release or re-check marks, results or OMR sheets

— influence any decision the Commission makes

— sell exam access, question papers, or anything resembling guaranteed selection

Anything official has to be done on the Commission's own portals. We link them wherever they matter, and say plainly when only the official source can answer you.

How our content is made and checked

Primary documents first: the examination notice, the official calendar, result and cut-off releases, and the annual reports. Secondary reporting is labelled as such; where sources disagree we show both. Every factual page carries a "last reviewed" date. Some drafts are AI-assisted; every published page is checked by a human editor against primary sources. The full method is in our Editorial Policy.

Who runs this site

UPSC Help Center is operated by Gyaniversity Publications, an Indian educational publisher. Naming the operator matters: a real, contactable organisation stands behind these pages and can be held to a correction when we get something wrong. Pages are published under the byline UPSC Help Center Editorial Team.

We should also be honest about what we are not. We are an editorial team, not former civil servants, and we do not claim anyone here cleared the CSE. Our competence is documentary: we read the notification, the annual reports and the official releases, we date and cite what we publish, and we correct ourselves in public.

Free to read, and a disclosure

Everything here is free to read — no login, no sign-up wall, no paid tier, nothing to unlock.

Gyaniversity Publications also publishes UPSC study guides and runs AI study tutors. Where those are genuinely relevant to a page we may recommend them, clearly labelled as ours. We do not sell coaching, we do not rank coaching institutes, and take no affiliate payment from any coaching company. Process and exit-lane pages carry no product recommendations at all.
